Incorporations are only a tap away with MyCorporation’s appWhat is the name of your business and URL of your App?

A brief synopsis of the smart phone app ?

Starting a company is already a stressful process, especially since something as simple as a small mistake on a standard form can undo hours of work. Our app was designed to simplify the entire process by putting as much information as possible on starting a business and forming a corporation or LLC right at your fingertips. We’ve made our knowledge library easily accessible, and condensed all of our services into a format that fits right on your phone. If you decide you do want to incorporate, register a DBA, or anything else related to business that requires legal documents you can flick over to our services section, fill out a couple of easy forms, and let us take care of the paperwork.

Why did you start this company?

Deborah Sweeney, CEO of MyCorporation

MyCorporation was actually once part of Intuit, who would sell their products alongside the standard incorporation services that MyCorp offered. When they divested themselves of the company in 2009, I bought it! I fell in love with the idea behind MyCorp. We are typically one of the first organizations a new entrepreneur will talk to when starting up, and I have watched countless companies grow from just an idea into viable business. I also love being able to help the little guys avail of all the benefits of incorporation and LLC formation; very few people seem to realize how much protection a corporation or LLC actually gives them.

Android, iphone, blackberry, or windows?

We have released the app for the iPhone and iPad, but our amazingly talented software engineer Omo is working hard on an Android version as well.

Was your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

My husband and I both cashed out our savings to buy MyCorp from Intuit, and even took out a mortgage against our house. It was a little risky, but absolutely exhilarating. We actually never even had to touch the money from the mortgage – MyCorporation started paying us back almost immediately.

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

Yikes, loaded question! Traditionally, small businesses would go to lawyers or accountants who would then charge an arm and a leg for document preparation services. Then, as time went on, companies like ours began to spring up to offer the same services but for a lower price. So we have a few competitors, but I’ve been told by our clients that we are more personable, and thus easier to talk to. When a business is just starting out, they want to know they can turn to somebody who can help them through the rough patches and answer their questions. Of course, we have plenty of clients who simply call in, place an order, and never talk to us again. But we’re always available for the few who need a bit more help. We’ve actually really been trying to develop our social media presence for that exact reason – just so there is another channel that potential entrepreneurs can contact us through.

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc use your product?

Incorporations are only a tap away with MyCorporation’s appWe’ve made it our mission to help entrepreneurs carve a path through the tangles of red tape that make filling paperwork for their business such an arduous process. MyCorp has years of experience working with state offices and helping businesses create a strong, legal foundation to build on. Our app, our website, the services we offer – everything we do is designed to make life easier for entrepreneurs. We are here for as much, or as little, as they need.

Is this a free app or how much is it?

Absolutely, one-hundred percent free. Nearly all of the information and services that the app offers can be found, in some form or another, on our website so it didn’t make much sense to charge for it.

Do you have a blog that keeps users updated?

We sure do. Our company’s blog can be found at and it updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We also have a newsletter anyone can subscribe to, and maintain active Twitter and Facebook accounts. All of our outlets will light up if there are any new updates to the app, or developments within the company.

Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn or ? Provide exact URL of each

How long have you been in business?

MyCorp has been around since 1997, but I’ve been running it for almost four years now.

Number of current users? Estimated yearly growth?

On the day we launched we only had 28 downloads, but after we began to plug the app our numbers began to climbthe day after launch saw 204 unique downloads! We’ve since had around 500 downloads after the launch. That may not sound like much compared to other offerings in the app store, but knowing that our app is currently on around 500 phones means a lot to our little business. On average, there have been about 25 downloads per month for the past few months so we’re expecting our numbers to hang around there.

How do you see your company in the next 2-5 years (more products or services?)

Our software engineer Omo is hard at work for an Android version of our app and we’re excited for that. As for my company, I’m very passionate about helping new entrepreneurs, and would love it if everyone who wanted to start a company knew that we were ready and waiting to help them out. So it’s a matter of getting more recognition, and earning the trust and respect of our clients. The more the name MyCorp corresponds with starting new businesses, the happier I am.

How many employees do you currently have working with you and/or freelance contractors?

Our operation is run on a day-to-day basis by thirty to fifty different people, which makes our business slightly smaller, especially considering we offer our services to all fifty states.

What other web based products would you recommend to entrepreneurs, business owners, or freelancers?

Don’t neglect social media! You can bet your bottom dollar that your competitors are building a strong online presence, and you need to be too. Even if it seems that no one is listening or interacting, that doesn’t mean people aren’t paying attention. Play around with Twitter, start a Facebook page, and, if you can write, maintain a blog. And, while we’re on the topic of blogs, spend a couple of hours looking for new outlets to follow. Business blogs offer a wealth of free information – it is just silly to not take advantage of that.
