Fundraise Online With Go Get Funding

Sandip Singh

Who is the person? What is there background?

My name is Sandip Singh and I’m the founder of Go Get Funding. My educational and professional work background is in the field on finance and investments. I studied an MSc in Investment Management and then went on to work as an analyst for a major investment house in theUK.

However, my entrepreneurial flair needed an outlet and I loved the thought of being able to start an online business.

Fast forward four years and I had left full time employment in order to pursue my goal of creating amazing online businesses.

Go Get Funding is the first major project that my team and I have been working hard on it for over a year to make it a success. And thankfully, things are looking great!

What is your product or service?

Go Get Funding is an online fundraising website. Members can raise money for absolutely anything.

What makes Go Get Funding special is the ease at which anyone can create a great fundraiser. We have all the tools you need to get started quickly and attract donations.

We have also launched (and continue to launch) a number of innovative social features. For example each fundraiser contains a ‘Progress’ tab. This lets users monitor donations, visitors and social network shares.

Being able to track social network shares like this has never been implemented on a fundraising site before and this helps fundraisers easily spread their message.

Date officially launched?

December 2011 – and we’ve come a long way since then!

Why was this social venture created?

I thought the online fundraising scene needed a new player that offered better social features to help fundraisers spread important messages. Furthermore, the fees employed by other fundraising companies were pretty extortionate – I wanted to change that!

Could others help you and how?

Others can always help by spreading the message about our platform and linking to us wherever possible.

Let people know that there is an online fundraising site out there that wont take 9% of the money they raise!

What free online or offline tools do you use?

The main free tools that we use include Gmail Google Docs. The collaboration facilities in Google Docs have saved my team and I a tremendous amount of time!

How many people are currently working, including employees (freelancers or independent contractors for specific projects)?

There are currently five people working on Go Get Funding full-time. Three of those include contractors, as there is a whole range of improvements that we’re bringing to the site.

Do you tweet, facebook fan page, myspace friend or use any other social media to get the word out? (Please provide links).

We do indeed. You can follow us on Twitter (@GoGetFunding) and like us on Facebook.

What is the best advice you’ve received?

To focus my efforts and not spread them too thin.

While in full-time employment, I tried but it was difficult to pursue my goal of creating a great online business.

I then decided to focus my efforts and take a shot at what I really wanted to do without any distractions and it has worked out pretty well.

What is the best advice that you never got?

To learn about the more technical aspects related to online businesses at an earlier stage. For example, learning how website databases work and the basics of coding.

Having a fundamental understanding is essential if you want to make a quick change and other employees are not available.

What is the one thing that you did right?

The most significant thing that we have done to get ahead is always being responsive. That means always listening to our members and continually improving our service.

I believe that if someone continually focuses on making their product or service better, they will be successful.

What was the biggest transition you had to make (i.e. new skill set, habits, abilities, focus)?

Understanding databases and basic programming. It’s not very exciting but it’s necessary to know if and when you need to make small changes to your website and contractors are unavailable.

My natural skills lie in the creative and marketing areas so this was quite a jump but as I knew it had to be done as it’s in the best interest of my members.

What can you tell other potential social entrepreneurs who are deciding to make a difference?

Focus and listen to your users. If you combine those two abilities you will be able to make a difference. It’s not about what you think is best; it’s about what your users think is best.

What book(s) have you read that others should read?

One of my favourite books is called The Dream by Gurbaksh Chahal.

I could relate with Gurbaksh as we come from similar backgrounds and I love the way he goes about things. Truly inspirational.
