Pipedrive – the CRM tool that is anti-CRM

Pipedrive - the CRM tool that is anti-CRMWhat is the name of your business and URL?

We’re called Pipedrive and you can find us at http://pipedrive.com

Explain your service to a 5 year old?

Pipedrive lets you organise and work with your sales leads, hiring candidates, investment opportunities or other important discussions in a really simple way. Technically it’s simple CRM software but there are so many cumbersome and complex CRM solutions out there we usually avoid calling our product a CRM tool. So we’ve called Pipedrive either a deal management app or sales productivity app rather than a CRM.

Why did you start this company?

Our co-founders had created a leading sales & management training company in the Baltic & Nordic region. As the company grew sales internationally the team experienced increasing amounts of software pains. There simply was no good solution for managing the company’s sales pipeline. After our latest 27000-dollar CRM investment turned out to be yet another waste of money, we teamed up with software developers to create Pipedrive, a simple and yet powerful tool for managing and growing sales.

Pipedrive - the CRM tool that is anti-CRMWas your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

We started Pipedrive on a shoestring budget, working long days and making sure our training revenues kept our team afloat as we started working on software. Later we got a grant from a government program and raised a small investment round after graduating from the Angelpad accelerator program. While it was exciting to build a new business and hear positive feedback from our first customers, constantly worrying about making ends meet wasn’t much fun.

We’re glad this phase has ended, at least for the time being. If you want to know more, check out the guest post at GigaOM by our CEO Timo Rein that summarises our experience.

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

There are hundreds of not thousands of CRM solutions out there, and most of them are over-priced and under-designed. So the one thing we don’t do is obsess about competitors. There is plenty of new business to be won for us and a handful of other companies that are building helpful and simple-to-use CRM tools.

In the end those that solve a customer’s problem better will be more successful. And the problem we’re focused on solving is giving a great overview of a company’s sales pipeline, while making sure that sales people don’t need to spend too much time and energy when they use their CRM tool.

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc use your product?

We see two main paths for people that start to use Pipedrive. First is people that started out with a simple spreadsheet and “grew out of it” either because number of contacts or size of the team increased.

Most of our new customers, however, simply look for a better tool to replace their existing CRM software which is either too cumbersome to use, doesn’t add enough value, or both. We’ve seen our customers eyes really light up once they start to use Pipedrive. Recently we learned about a studio in Germany that liked it so much they started managing their animation projects with our software. When you see CRM app used as a project management software you know you’ve created a simple-enough service.

Do you offer free online or offline tools?

Pipedrive is a paid app but we often post sales and startup related articles and tips on our blog. These are free, of course

Are there different pricing levels?

Yes. Out single-user package starts at just €9 per month with plans for teams starting at €19 per month. Plus we offer free 30-day trials for all plans.

Do you have a blog that keeps users updated?

Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn or ?

https://www.facebook.com/pipedrive

https://twitter.com/pipedrive

Do you have a YouTube video URL that you can share with us, and allow us to publish with your story?

How long have you been in business?

We started working on Pipedrive in the summer of 2010, launched in private beta in autumn the same year and made the service available for everyone in January of 2011.

How many employees do you currently have working with you and/or freelance contractors?

We’re a team of eight people, with more support people and developers joining soon.

What other web based products would you recommend to entrepreneurs, business owners, or freelancers?

We use Assistly for support, Recurly for billing, Asana for managing development and IDoneThis for keeping each other in the loop. Naturally we’re also big users of Pipedrive and we’re using it for a variety of purposes from partner contacts to fundraising to managing guest blogging opportunities.
