Wabiness: Your Network is Worth Money

Wabiness: Your Network is Worth MoneyWhat is the name of your business and URL?

The platform is called Wabiness. The name comes from melting together a “WAB” (Windows Address Book) file extension from Outlook, and “Business”. You can discover it here http://us.wabiness.com

A brief synopsis of the website?

We are a professional business platform matching together individuals’ skills and contacts with companies who are looking for new business development opportunities, distributors and suppliers.

Wabiness was born from a simple observation. Millions of companies are looking for ways to grow their business while minimizing the financial impact involved and millions of people are seeking to improve their income. Wabiness offers these companies and intermediaries (students, retirees, employees, sales representatives, seniors) to meet towards a common goal.

Companies subscribe to the network for a fixed period of time and with unlimited access to listings and the database of intermediaries. They can showcase their work, their products, services and their means of production. They indicate the type of commission they’re willing to offer to intermediaries bringing them business.

Intermediaries register for free and can showcase their network, skills, and know-how and get in touch with companies to provide them with ideas, contacts and new market opportunities.

Wabiness receives no commission on transactions between members and allows them complete freedom to communicate with each other via the internal messaging system or other means available to them. In all cases, members are free to accept/refuse introductions. Profiles, products, services, catalogs are visible on all search engines to optimize referrals and business development.

Why did you start this company?

The idea came from two business owners looking to develop their own activity without the traditional restraints of sales employees or independent sales agents – business referral appeared to be the best solution. After extensive and deceiving research to find a website meeting their expectations, they came up with the goal to create this platform. I hopped on board as a partner and with the responsibilities to make it succeed in North America.

Was your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

For now it is only funded through family, friends, and personal savings. That also enables you to keep control over your idea in the beginning and it is definitely a good way to think outside the box to make it succeed. However we might not turn our back on the right VCs in the future to accelerate our development.

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

We don’t really have a direct competition. There are plenty of professional networks out there, including some focused on business referrals, but our added value is to democratize a simple concept and make it available to all. We’re not only about human capital or just a business directory, we match motivated individuals and companies, or companies together to do business and mutually benefit from each other.

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc use your service?

Anyone can benefit from our service. We already have a few good diverse examples, and the list goes on…

A small metal molds manufacturer was offered a market in the aerospace field by an intermediary. The company had never thought of diversification, but the intermediary was familiar with this sector, and they were offered to enter this market because they had the technology and machines to meet these new demands. This diversification is today 40% of their turnover.

An architect had been offered various sites by an intermediary retiree who had kept a great network in his region.

An American intermediary offered to reference a French winemaker to WalMart stores because he personally knew by the buyer.

Are there different pricing levels?

The platform is free for individuals wanting to leverage their networks and skills and make it an occasional additional income source, or using it as a full time commitment if you have the right professional sales experience for example.

Companies register with a monthly or yearly subscription for unlimited use of the platform and its tools, at the tenth of the cost of other existing networks.

Your Facebook & Twitter?

You can like us on our new Facebook here http://www.facebook.com/Wabiness . Don’t be shy even if you just like the concept but it doesn’t appeal to you right now, we’ll take the support ;)

Our Twitter with updates, business development news, and opportunities can be found here: https://twitter.com/#!/Wabiness

How long have you been in business?

The official launch of our website was in January 2012. We’ve seen amazing responses and support and are today 5000 members and counting.

Wabiness: Your Network is Worth MoneyHow many employees do you currently have working with you and/or freelance contractors?

Today we have a mix of partners and freelancers in North America, France, Italy, UK, Benelux, Vietnam and China opening this month, and very soon in India and Brazil – paving the way for greater international growth opportunities for all members.

To support us with the website we have an award winning French agency and freelance developers to offer the best experience possible.

Are you looking to hire more people or contractors? If so, what positions and skills are you looking for?
We’re not planning to hire full time employees at the moment but social media savvy or entrepreneurial-minded talents or interns would be appreciated for some real hands-on experience in launching a startup.

Also since you receive a commission for referring new businesses to Wabiness, any potential intermediary with a broad network or a go-getter attitude could get in touch with us to discuss a more interesting partnership.
