I am an established restaurateur and retail operator. In late 2008, with the downturn of the economy, I saw a need for my own restaurants to gain an online presence, in order to not lose ground in contending with competitors. I implemented a website, a Facebook page and actually started using Constant Contact and couple of others, for my email marketing efforts. Though these email marketing platforms all got the job done, they were pretty confusing to use. But seeing the immediate results of my email promotions and well-versed in knowing the firsthand challenges most lay small business owners would experience in implementing email marketing, I set out to create a simple to use tool that every operator and entrepreneur could benefit from.

During this time, I took a trip to India and was impacted emotionally by the dire circumstances facing parts of the nation, the poverty and lack of basic needs. In my time of brainstorm, I was compelled to create a business model that indoctrinated a “give-back” program. Hence came RedCappi, the simplest online platform for the everyday business owner to easily, effectively and affordably communicate with customers through email marketing- with a social charge, working towards funding water wells in developing nations and creating clean water solutions.

Was your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

RedCappi was started on a shoestring budget. I am personally funding this project and plan to keep on reinvesting earnings right back into it.

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

But its intimidating pre-filled templates and overall corporate feel may be a bit daunting to less computer savvy users, particularly small business owners who have yet to get online. Keeping this mind, RedCappi has stripped the email marketing process down to the basics to make it manageable for the everyday business owner to begin implementing email marketing into his/her venture. Our platform offers a much more simplified and friendly version of our competitors, with an inviting logo, simple interface and casual approach. We’ve moved away from outdated templates that are more work to undo in design, wasting time in waiting for each change to refresh on the page and confusing with an busy assembly of seldom used features. Instead, RedCappi users create with the freedom to design as much or as little from the very beginning, using simple drag and drop technology, image resizing and customizing on the spot with a robust editor always in preview mode- no wasteful extra steps. And it goes without saying that we are MUCH more affordable than the rest!

We launched privately in August 2011, but publicly about a month ago.

Currently, we have about 1000 users.

How do you see your company in the next 2-5 years

Based on user-needs and feedback, we will add more useful features continuing to stay true to our less-is-more theme.

How many employees do you currently have working with you and/or freelance contractors?

Three.

We are always looking for creative writers, designers and programmers to add to our team that sync with our company culture.

I just started using Evernote, a great tool to help keep my thoughts organized.
