Herbal Papaya llc is a product based business. We make 100% Organic and all Natural Papaya Leaf Extract and Papaya Fruit Health Preparations, including Capsules, Liquid extract, Tea and Dried leaves. Our goal is to source for the finest papaya ingredients and to make premium papaya-based health products. We provide our customers with the fastest shipping and excellent 5-star service.

Herbal Papaya operates www.herbalpapaya.com – the one stop online retail source that guarantees the best prices anywhere in the world, the fastest 2 to 3-day shipping, and 60 Day Money Back Guarantee. We provide the papaya based product that customers have been seeking, with helpful information for our customers. Our products are used for health benefits such as naturally increasing platelet count, helping treat/prevent cancer, aiding digestion and boosting immunity.

Why did you start your company?
I started my business because a friend told me that eating papaya while pregnant results in great skin for baby. I was skeptical but decided to do my own research. What I found was that, not only was she right, but there were several more health benefits of papaya and papaya leaves, including recent clinical studies which showed that Papaya extract may help prevent or treat cancer. I started eating a lot of papaya fruit and started to notice the effects on my skin, nails and my digestion. It also helped with heart burn. I found that papaya based products were not readily available, and decided to fill this void, and let others know of the many benefits of papaya that I and many others have personally experienced.

Herbal Papaya was financed solely from personal savings which were very lean because I had quit my job to have a baby. My start up budget was $1,200, and we focused on our first product the 100% Organic Papaya Leaf tea product. The success with the tea (the only Organic Papaya Tea in the market today) encouraged us to further invest and expand our product line to the Organic Papaya Leaf Extract Capsules and the Papaya Leaf Liquid Extract (Distinguished by no alcohol content). On a shoe string budget, the web development, product design, supply chain management, customer service, and fulfillment were personally handled.

What free online or offline tools do you use?
I have used several online tools including weebly, mailchimp, odesk, elance, Amazon Mechanical Turk, compete.com, waveaccounting, spotmixer and Ring Central.

How many people are currently working in your business, including employees (freelancers or independent contractors for specific projects)?
We currently have 6 people working for Herbal Papaya, some are freelancers and contractors focused on specific tasks.

What is the best advice you never got?
Follow your passions and don’t be afraid to bottom out. I have always been passionate about entrepreneurship, and excited by the challenge of building a business. I wish I had pursued my dreams much earlier.

What almost killed your business in the start?
Fear! The first few months with no revenue is always scary.

What is the one thing that you did right?
One thing I did right was market testing products before launching them. Several test products turned out to be failures and I am glad we did not sink capital into full blown product development. Also it turns out that offering free samples of our products helps us reach several potential customers.

What was the biggest transition you had to make (i.e. new skill set, habits, abilities, focus)?
My biggest transition was to go from a technical background and focus more in Marketing and product development. I had to learn to do everything from customer service to fulfillment, from Marketing to building relationships with providers and supply chain vendors.

Are you currently in the black or red?
We are currently in the red because all revenue goes back into to business. A product based business requires a lot of capital at the initial stage, and a lot goes into advertising and media to get your products and brand out there.

What type of marketing or advertising do you do?
Mostly google adwords. Our products are also on Amazon Ads and Blogs. We have also advertised in a National Health and Wellness Magazine and will be at a trade show next year.

What would make your business more “Successful”?
I believe exploring ways to ship our products faster to our customers and exploring expansion into international markets will help us grow.

Would you want to be acquired by a bigger company, run it yourself or sell in a couple of years?
I would be open to any of the above options. I am not focused on the outcome now.

What do you think your projected annual revenue will be?
Our ambitious goal is to grow to reach annual revenues of over half a million dollars.

How long do you think it will take you to get to your projected annual revenue?
We are working hard to reach our goal in 3 – 5 years.
