Is it possible to make a living giving away stuff for free? At MyFreebeez.com, that’s exactly what we doWhy did you start your company?

Even in difficult economic times like these, there are always opportunities present for those who notice them and are willing to take advantage of them. In this terrible economic environment, my partner and I are able to make a living by giving away free stuff. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? But it’s true and just goes to show that fellow entrepreneurs can thrive if they find innovative solutions to current issues. Small businesses are strapped but are still looking for a way to promote themselves. At MyFreebeez.com, we came up with the most cost effective way of doing so.

What is your product or service?

At MyFreebeez.com, businesses are able to purchase a day for us to promote them. We then create our video promotion and write up a blog post. We blast both to our fan base of over 20,000 people. Since we are geared to small businesses, our prices are extremely low and bring results. For example, for just $100 we promoted a client and within 24 hours, our promotion received over 4,000 unique views and 600 comments (and still counting). For a small business, this type of exposure is significant and when every dollar counts, they get the most bang for their buck. We are able to ensure that each promotion gets significant exposure by giving away products to our followers. The money we receive from our clients is funneled out to our audience in the form of popular prizes. This in turn keeps our audience growing, so it’s a win-win situation for all involved.

How was it financed?

The whole startup was funded solely by the two co-founders. It now is a self-sustaining business model where the revenue from days sold is used to finance operating expenses.

Do you use Social Media tools?

Of course! Social Media is a huge component of what we do and how we promote all of our clients. We have been able to gain a large following on Facebook and Twitter and it really pays to be active on these channels. People love a company that is actively involved with their community and responds to their fans.

Our twitter is: twitter.com/MyFreebeez,

How many people are currently working?

Right now we still continue to operate as a two man operation. This is tough at times because we have to wear many different hats when running an entire business on our own. Although we have long term plans of expanding and growing our team, we will not do so until we are ready. There is a delicate balance to how and when you add expenses to a small startup.

What is the best advice you never got?

Starting up a business is HARD. Seriously. I know everyone tells you its hard to go into business for yourself but trust me, it’s much harder than you think. You have to be ready to commit to your idea and be in it for the long haul because without that type of persistence, you will not succeed.

What almost killed your business in the start?

In our very early days when every bit of capital counts and you try to stretch every single dollar as much as possible, we were scammed by some teenager online for over $1,000. We had used him for some promotion on his YouTube channel, his username was itzdeaman and he had a large following. He offered to sell us his channel and we were of course very interested. Unfortunately, he basically just took the money and disappeared. We told ourselves then that whenever MyFreebeez.com grows into a large online presence, we would expose him to everyone for the scammer that he was. Luckily, we were able to coast for a couple weeks and keep our business running until we found our next client.

What is the one thing that you did right?

Choosing our partners. This is probably the most critical component that determines whether a business will triumph or falter. The founders and partners have to get along and work well with one another. Thankfully, I had known my partner, Robert Corrado, for many years. I went to college with him and worked a part time job with him so I was able to easily gauge whether or not we’d be a good fit with one another. Our partnership can not be any better. It’s normal to encounter many hurdles and bumps in the road when running any business. We have always been able to address and resolve any situation that has come in our path.

What would make your business more “Successful”?

More clients! Since our whole model relies on small businesses that need promotion, we’d love it if we had an endless stream of clients. It would also be extremely helpful to get some coverage in the very reputable national press outlets.

Would you want to be acquired by a bigger company, run it yourself or sell in a couple of years?

I think Rob and I both agree that we have a vision for the future of MyFreebeez.com and we want to be the people that see this thing through. Money is nice but seeing your idea turn into what you envisioned it is even better.
