Who is the person? What is there background?

NPO Promote, LLC was founded by Tyler Colby and Robert Brauer.

Tyler Colby worked for a fortune 250 telecommunications company and managed affiliate networks with big box retailers for over five years. After a close family member started an overseas non-profit organization, he came up with the idea of raising donations via internet marketing and affiliates.

Robert has started a number of successful internet marketing ventures, and is the founder of Modern Marketing Journal – He has great insight into SEO, external website marketing, and attracting affiliates. He is currently finishing his MBA.

What is your product or service?

NPO Promote offers a unique twist on a very simple business model. Affiliate networks are an organization where marketers will promote offers and receive a commission for a sale or conversion. For our service we focus solely on raising donations and contributions for non-profit organizations, and we focus on finding internet marketers with huge followings.

Date officially launched?

NPO Promote officially launched on October 3, 2011, with our first non-profit organization sign up coming just 5 days after.

What came about that made them help in social change? Why was this social venture created?

Our goal has been to give non-profit organizations the ability to quickly market their service. We believe that our abilities to draw traffic to organizations through providing free SEO tactics and fund-raising help on our site, as well as our paid affiliate network will help non-profit organizations collect donations without as much hands on promoting. This allows non-profit organizations, especially small, developing non-profits, to focus on completing their mission instead of online site creating.

How many years and how many people has this person helped? How many people need help?

We are still in our infancy, and still very actively building our reach to non-profit organizations. We are confident that we can not only be a benefit to the 1.8 million 501 (c)(3) organizations in the United States, but with a world-wide spread we will be able to reach over 5 million non-governmental organizations that provide support and aid to others.

What is the cost per person that is being helped? Are you working on decreasing that cost by being more efficient?

To market a non-profit organization in our marketplace is no monthly cost – and NPO Promote collects just 6% of donations to help cover transaction costs. For organizations to attract affiliates we charge $29.95 monthly. This helps us maintain our click-through tracking network, and helps us cover transaction costs to affiliates. Since our data storage, content delivery, and transaction fees are simply a percentage of what we have listed, this helps us cover all technical fees and also our marketing efforts.

To help offset costs in the future, we are currently seeking partnerships who would like to match the 6% donation fee on an ongoing basis so that we can provide 100% donations to our organizations and focus on attracting affiliates to promote our organizations.

NPO Promote currently has two founders and one freelanced employee for ongoing marketing efforts.

What is the best advice you never got?

There’s a lot of advice that we’ve gotten about our business that we sincerely believe: get version 1.0 out there and find out what people think, spend 80-90% of your day talking about your business and find mechanisms to sell it for you, and the people you know are willing to help you if you ask.

The best advice we never received is easy – you are ready for this. After months and months of waiting, talking about it, and doing everything but starting this business, we finally sat down and did it. Once the ball started rolling, things were much easier than we ever expected.

What is the one thing that you did right?

We talk about our business constantly. I’m sure everyone in our lives are annoyed by hearing about our business at this point, but we are in love with fund-raising. If you are not passionate about what you are doing, there is no reason to be doing it.

Are you doing any type of Search Engine Optimization?

Robert handles most of the site’s SEO work. We write constantly about tips on improving SEO on sites – tips that can be accessed for free! Here is our basics of SEO information:

We have celebrated a number of victories with traffic. Our first week traffic report,, gives our exact strategy for generating traffic. Our main tactics include small amounts of paid Stumbles on StumbleUpon to provide a burst of traffic to a new article. We always make sure to link to a high quality article that provides a ton of value to our potential readers, so that we can capitalize on this. By using this tactic, with just $10 we generated almost 5,000 total pageviews thus far, and have a CPC of less the 1/5th of a penny. This has been our cheapest source of traffic thus far, and the return on investment is astronomical.

We also have been working on increasing our Twitter following actively. Our strategy has been straightforward – write great blog posts, share them on Twitter, then go through our new followers and subscribe to 10 of their followers. By doing this constantly we are at just over 70 followers at this writing, after only one week of being online.
