Better Manage your Client Relations with STL Contacts Manager

Better Manage your Client Relations with STL Contacts ManagerCompany Background:

My company, SimTechLife (, designs apps for the iPhone platform. Its slogan is “simple technology for life”. I try to design apps that take day to day activities in your life and make them more productive and easier to do, using your iPhone.

Featured app: STL Contacts Manager ( allows you to better manage your contacts by assigning them into groups, automatically sorting them, finding the information you want quicker and maintaining an extensive history of all your communication. Additional add-on purchases let you add features like Facebook integration, location tracking and event management for a nominal cost.

Purpose of this app:

I found that there were several iPhone apps that did single things very well. However I wanted an app that combined the features of several apps (contacts, tasks, locations, notes) into one, so that I could have all this data in one place.

Was your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

The company was completely started on a shoestring budget. The first version was quite basic. However I used sales from that version to reinvest in the app. Since then I’ve added additional features and raised the selling price accordingly.

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

There are several apps out there that handle certain functions very well (contacts, tasks, locations). The strength of my app is integrating all these functions into a single app.Better Manage your Client Relations with STL Contacts Manager

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc use your product?

My app is especially useful for business owners who keep clients in their phone address book. Features include being able to create smart groups like “Accountants in New York”. You can maintain extensive communication history with your contacts, including being able to add additional notes, pictures and recordings to their profile. There is also a network feature that allows you to keep track of how your contacts know each other (eg. Sally is Bob’s wife).

It is also useful for day to day functions, as I’ve tried to improve all aspects of managing contacts. You can add and dial contacts quicker, thanks to auto suggestions as you type. Locations can be saved with one click. Favorite contacts are automatically grouped together. The list goes on.

How could you effectively use these tools?

Business owners can benefit from these tools by being able to better manage their client relations. For example, the next time you talk to a client you can see what you discussed last time. You can also pull their latest status update from Facebook, so you’ll know what to talk about. You’ll see the names of his wife and kids, so you’ll know who to talk about.

What challenges have you come across while creating this app?

Better Manage your Client Relations with STL Contacts ManagerAs I combine functions from other apps into my single app, it has become a challenge to do so in a way that improves upon the original. For example, I have tried to improve upon the built in iPhone Contacts app by letting you add and access contact details in less clicks. However, as more features are added, the problem of feature creep has set in. At times, I’ve had to remove features or not add them, when they start to make the basic functions of the app more complicated. The UI has had to be redesigned several times to make sure new functions are easily accessible. This will continue to be a challenge in future versions, but one I’m looking forward to.

Is this a free app or how much is it?

There is a free ad supported version with all the basic features. The full version lets you remove the ads. There are also additional add-ons that can be purchased that add additional features like Facebook integration, events, locations and attachments.

How do you see your company in the next 2-5 years (more products or services?)

I plan to continue expanding this app by further integrating it with other popular services that people are using. For example, in addition to further Facebook integration, I am currently looking into LinkedIn and Twitter integration for future versions, as well as expanding the platform to an iPad and possibly web app.

The new iOS5 that will be coming out soon also allows me to add new functionality like syncing across multiple devices using iCloud.

What other web based products would you recommend to entrepreneurs, business owners, or freelancers?

Developing software is an ongoing process. I keep in touch with my user base through email, my blog and twitter. I maintain a list of user feedback along with my own ideas in Evernote. I then create daily tasks using Gmail’s task window to monitor my progress.

Do you have a blog that keeps users updated?

I maintain separate company and personal blog and twitter accounts:

Company blog:

Company Twitter: @simtechlife.

Personal blog (business and marketing insights):

Personal Twitter: @winningstack
