Alexandre Rambaud holds over 20 years of international management experience in the software industry. Prior to Agendize, he was Executive Vice President for international operations at Mediapps, a leading European software and portal vendor, where he set up and managed profitable subsidiaries in Germany, the U.K. and Spain. Alex holds two patents for facilitating the transfer of personal information, a master’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Paris. He also attended INSEAD-Euroforum’s Executive Program.

What is Agendize?

Agendize creates conversion applications aimed at converting online traffic into real business. Our easy-to-install suite of conversion tools (such as Click-to-Call, Live Chat, Book an Appointment) helps small businesses to large industries, get more calls and meetings from their online presence. We are the only company that offers over 20 unique conversion tools and user engagement analytics, managed from one dynamic platform. Agendize has powered over 21 000 000 actions to date in 25 different countries.

Why did you start this company?

Alex: The idea came to me back in 2003 when I tried to manually enter product info into my calendar. I realized that there could be an easier and quicker way for users to save and share information online. What if instead of writing information on an easily lost Post-it note, people could build simple buttons that could be deployed on any website? These buttons could let users send information by chat, SMS, save it to their calendar, or address book, contact businesses directly from their phone and much more. Over the years, this idea has developed into a complete toolbox of apps that is proven to increase a company’s client-base, customer service and conversion rates.

How was it financed?

Alex: Agendize was bootstrapped by its co-founders for the first three years. Then we got a total $3.2 million in seed money from BNP Paribas Private Equity and Entrepreneur Venture (mid 2006 and 2009).

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

Alex: There are a number of companies that offer subsets of the tools we offer (Liveperson, Ifbyphone, BoldCall, AddThis, AppointmentPlus), but never a complete suite. Agendize is also the first player to offer a flexible Pay as You Go pricing model so businesses only pay when their visitors call, chat, books an appointment, saves the company’s details into their address book etc.

Do you offer free online or offline tools?

Alex: Yes, Agendize Form Builder, Share and Comment & Rate tools are always free. We also offer $5 credit upon sign up, so our users can build and test our buttons for free.

Do you have a blog that keeps users updated?

Alex: The Agendize blog, blog.agendize.com is constantly updated with product information, conversion marketing tips and tech news. We’re always looking for guest writers and blogging opportunities. Feel free to send us your story pitches and/or requests. As a personal project, I’m soon launching a LinkedIn group. “Conversion Marketing Pro” that will focus on helping marketing professionals optimize conversion rates through the education of new web tools, SEO investments, advertising initiatives and more.

How do you see your company in the next 2-5 years (more products or services?)

Alex: More exposure. Our goal is to become the main reference for web conversion so customers will start requesting more pay per conversations (chat, call, visit, appointments) instead of ‘just clicks.’ In terms of product, we will continue adding valuable functionalities to each one of our conversion tools. We aim to deliver the best user experience possible in order to build longer and more meaningful conversations.

What other web based products would you recommend to entrepreneurs, business owners, or freelancers?

Alex: For mid-size and large agencies, I recommend using Acquisio to boost productivity. For freelancers and high-end SMBs, I highly recommend HubSpot and for professionals and business owners, web packages from YellowBook and other local media agencies are also great tools.

Would you want to be acquired by a bigger company, run it yourself or sell in a couple of years?

Alex: We’re focusing on building long-term business by offering many organizations the technology and tools that only enterprise customers can typically afford. This strategy has been working very well so far. I continue to work hard on finding more fresh talent to join our team and financial resources to help achieve our goals.

What is the best advice you ever got?

Alex: That’s a great question. I’m lucky to have met so many talented people on this journey, many of whom had good advice and inspiration to share. I have three pieces of advice to share: always put your customers first, simplify details and accept the fact that success comes with time, hard work and perseverance.
