Why did you write this book?

Yes! Selling Can Be Natural, Effortless, and PleasurableThe reason I wrote this book is because I was appalled at how many self-employed people, entrepreneurs, experts, small business owners, and coaches were barely breaking even and were feeling very dis empowered. They all started their businesses because they felt called to make a difference in their customers’ lives. Yet, they struggled with turning their passionate endeavors into a profit; or worse, they began feeling very lost because they weren’t making the impact they wanted to. I knew they needed sales help, and needed it in a form that would allow them to naturally serve their customers and their mission without diminishing their entrepreneurial and creative spirit. This powerful group of people could be ushering in a new, conscious business era, but that won’t happen unless they are financially successful. Effective selling is the answer; it leads to profitability and competitive advantage.

When I tell self-employed people, entrepreneurs, experts, small business owners, and coaches that selling can be as fun and easy as chatting with a friend, they don’t believe me. That’s because many businesspeople are allergic to selling. They’ve gotten that way from having one too many negative experiences as a buyer.

In fact, many entrepreneurs have told me that they feel as if they’re caught in the sales-versus-soul trap. Most entrepreneurs got into business because they wanted to make a difference in the world, but as soon as it’s time to ask the customer for the sale, entrepreneurs think they are compromising their gifts. So instead, they do nothing and wish, wait, want, and hope for that customer to call who is ready to buy and requires no interaction from them. In short, avoiding the sales process makes many entrepreneurs feel safer. That’s nice, but it isn’t bankable and won’t pay the bills.

That’s why I developed a method of selling that’s based on more than three decades of experience as a highly successful salesperson. I retired from selling and now live in my person paradise of Hawaii. I made a lot of money from being a master salesperson, and my ability to see the possibility for lifelong prosperity in my clients’ businesses has made me a highly sought after expert in my field.

Now I coach others in the Effortless Yes! system, and have written a book about it. Do you do speaking events? What are some common ones that you do on a regular basis? What do you talk about?

Yes, as you might imagine, I love doing speaking gigs. I love teaching and showing others that selling doesn’t have to be hard, fearsome, or unpleasant. I have spoken at many events including Tory Johnson’s “Spark & Hustle” and Savor The Success’s “Women Entrepreneurs Rock the World.” I talk about how to become instantly bankable, how to overcome objections– especially the price objection, and ways to increase your selling prowess. My intention is to always provide the audience with tremendous value and inspire listeners to take bold new steps. Here are some links:

Do you do your own marketing or PR? What is a good marketing / PR strategy for a budding author?

A good marketing and PR strategy for a budding author is to hire experts in the fields of PR and book marketing. I thought I could do it myself but I was costing myself valuable time and energy. The digital world offers so many choices, and competing for book sales against those with bigger platforms requires us to be super strategic and creative. I do my own social media and manage that. But the experts do the other parts and it is worth every penny to have someone in the know with the right relationships do that work for you.

Do you tweet, facebook fan page, myspace friend or use any other social media to get the word out?

Yes, I do all of the above except for myspace. I use Twitter for my broad appeal audience and I use Facebook for my female audience. On Facebook I find it much easier to light a fire, create buzz, and get people supporting my mission. Twitter seems to move so fast, but yet, the coolest movers and shakers prefer it. I wanted to get good at a few instead of be mediocre at too many social media outlets.

What is the best advice you never got?

By all means, no matter what, listen to your heart and don’t let your head rush you or push into any decision. There is no such thing as running out of time or space. Period.

What is the one thing that you did right?

Hired an excellent publicist and book marketing coach. Not only do they know their expertise really well, but they introduced me to people I wouldn’t have otherwise met. For once I didn’t try to be stoic about my own book marketing.

What was the biggest transition you had to make (i.e. new skill set, habits, abilities, focus)?

The biggest transition I had to make was to be okay with selling my own personal creation and content. I had always sold someone else’s stuff and that offered me some neutrality that you have to learn when you represent yourself.

What book(s) have you read that you would recommend to others?

One of the books I always recommend was written by Gay Hendricks. It is called The Big Leap.
