Shop Second Hand, Save $, Our Planet and your CommunityDiana was a single mom while attending San Francisco State University. She was in debt, because of her reliance on credit cards to make ends meet. While shopping at a thrift store in order to costume a theatrical production, she had a simple but huge realization.

She knew she was spending way too much money, at retail stores, buying clothes and household necessities, for herself and her son. Was there another way? Yes… There is a lot of great inventory here! Some of it brand new! Why not try Second Hand Shopping first before shopping retail? She made the commitment, to go there first, before anywhere else. And she has been happily shopping Second Hand ever since. And that credit card debt melted away slowly but surely. She had the extra money now, to pay it down and never go back, to shopping department stores again.

Shop Second Hand, Save $, Our Planet and your CommunityShe was often asked… How can you afford that ? Where did you get that?. When she would “fess up‚ and say “The Thrift Store!. The shock and surprise set in.Then the question was-“ What Thrift Store Do You Go To?!“ Usually after an awkward frustrating attempt, to try and explain, how to shop any thrift store, she wrote the answers, to the questions everyone had been asking. She realized people needed specific and detailed information, on how to shop second hand. That is how “90% OFF Every Day! the guide was born.

While writing the book, Diana realized that through shopping second hand, many people and causes were being helped in a variety of ways. Employees and volunteers worked for their favorite organizations and charities, who raised money to pay for programs. People who shopped Second Hand were contributing to worthwhile causes, as well as saving money. The environment was being helped in a huge way. People were shopping, donating and contributing locally.

“You may have an important message. How will anyone know about it, if you don’t talk about it?
You have to get the message out there, for people to hear!

My message is simple: reuse, shop local, help others, don’t waste, share. It works, because it is simple and manageable. It’s like planting a tree. It is a simple act. Only one tree can bring a lot of benefits to our neighborhood:beauty, shade, clean air and sometimes fruit and flowers.

“You have to realize, know in your heart, that what you’re doing, is making a positive difference in peoples lives.”
