Servio: A New Way to get Professional Services done In as Little as 1 Hour

What is the name of the site(s) and URL?

Servio business tools can be found at http://www.serv.io

A brief synopsis of the website / application ?

Servio is an easy to use online vending machine for on-demand business solutions. Services include professional editing and proofreading, translation, and press release writing, and article creation. More than 81,000 workers, including credentialed editors, writers, and translators, do work for Servio clients. A peer review process ensures that all work is done correctly. Servio’s business solutions are available 24 hours a day at rates affordable for small businesses, and Servio guarantees delivery in 24 hours or less.

Why did you start this company?

When we started Servio in 2009 there were millions of highly qualified people either unemployed or unable to work in a traditional 9 to 5 job. We saw a huge opportunity to bring these people together with work that companies needed to get done. While sites allowing businesses to hire freelancers have been around for years, they don’t solve many of the core problems that businesses face. You still have to find, vet, hire, train, manage, review, and pay freelancers.

We envisioned Servio as an answer to these common and costly business problems. The analogy we use is buying a car: no one ever asks the dealership who installed the steering wheel—they just want a car that goes the right direction when they turn it. By creating a platform that works like a virtual assembly line for labor, we’re able to eliminate many of the inadequacies of typical freelance work.

Was your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

Co-founder Alex Edelstein contributed a total of $1.5 million. In August 2010, Menlo Park-based Draper Fisher Jurvetson added $5.1 million in series B funding.

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc. use your product?

Servio’s solutions are ideal for small businesses, especially those feeling the strain of the current economic conditions. Servio takes projects that typically require a specialist’s touch – complicated translations, editing, SEO enabled content creation or writing press releases – and uses its crowd of workers to complete the project for a fraction of the cost, all with a 24 hour turnaround. Because Servio has a workforce of 81,000, projects that once required several individual specialists and took days to complete can now be submitted, processed, completed and returned in 24 hours or less.

Are there different pricing levels?

Servio’s professional proofreading services are priced at 1.3 cents per word, and document translation services at 6.7 cents per word. Proofreading and translation projects come with satisfaction and 24-hour delivery guarantees. Press releases are priced a $99, and can be ready in as little as four hours. Content creation and curation is priced per project, but with workable pricing plans for small businesses.

Do you have a blog that keeps users updated?

The Servio blog (http://blog.serv.io/category/blog/) is the best place to keep up to date on Servio’s news announcements, press, and stories from around the crowdsourcing world.
