A brief synopsis of your application ?

SignNow is a 100% free eSignature platform that requires no registration, no downloads, no technical skills and is perfect for small business.

NotaryNow is the world’s first online notarization platform allowing users to connect to a notary over webcam to legally notarize documents.

Why did you start this company?

Coming from the financial world, we experienced the difficulties of coordinating document signings, costs associated with shipping and wasted man hours printing and scanning documents. In addition, contracts worth tens of millions of dollars became worthless overnight because of notary fraud. Some notaries were paid off, some were completely fictional and others disappeared when contracts were questioned. All this inspired us to develop SignNow & NotaryNow with the goal of making signing online extremely simple for users and improve the enforceability of contacts.

Was your company started on a shoestring budget or funded?

Our business was definitely started on a shoestring budget. We are a self-funded startup that just recently raised Angel funding in March.

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

Our biggest competitors would be firms in the eSignature space (Docusign, Echosign, Right Signature) even though their focus is on enterprise level clients. All of our products emphasize ease for the user (my grandmother would be overwhelmed by other eSignature platforms) and SignNow free is the perfect example of how simple it can be for anyone to legally sign online. In addition, we will provide awesome signer identification tools, templates, document management, and collaboration with SignNow Pro.

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc use your product?

Anyone can sign or send documents for signing from their computer, Smartphone or tablet in seconds for free. Our product requires no registration, no downloads, and no paper. Small business can start saving money by losing that fax machine, printer and scanner.

How could you effectively use these tools?

Sign anything from purchase orders, sales contracts, NDAs, compensation agreements, ext…the sky is the limit. The best part, sign from your computer, Smartphone or tablet with almost no effort.

A short bio of your company.

SignNow, Inc. is an Angel-funded startup seeking to bring the millennia-old practice of using hardcopy signatures into the digital age through user-friendly, consumer-oriented Web applications. Designed to meet or exceed the security provided by long-standing handwritten practices, SignNow offers a simple, effective way to e-sign digital files without the need to scan, fax or mail documents.

Do you offer free online or offline tools?

Yes, SignNow is perfect for simple, free signings – use it as much as you’d like. Our web-based tool is free, the mobile version of our site is free, and the native Android and Apple apps for Smartphone and tablet will be free.

Are there different pricing levels?

SignNow pro (coming Summer 2011) will be a minimal monthly subscription fee and offer breakthrough ID tools, templates, collaborative signings and document management.

NotaryNow charges per notary seal.

How long have you been in business?

We started our business in 2007 in the financial service sector providing operational consulting, technology and portfolio operations hedge funds. In mid 2010 we started developing SignNow and completely migrated into the signature technology space Jan. 1st, 2011.

Number of current users? Estimated yearly growth?

We have over 1,000 current users and we expect to grow rapidly. One of our greatest challenges has been educating the public about digital signatures. There is tremendous legal support behind our products including 1999 UETA and 2000 ESIGN Acts, and our hope is to see the industry as a whole grow along with us. Nearly 90% of the working population trusts their money to online banking but less that 5% of people sign documents online. The market is wide open for growth.

How do you see your company in the next 2-5 years (more products or services?)

On the near horizon, we will be releasing native apps for both iOS and Android, launching SignNow Pro, making significant updates to NotaryNow that our users have suggested, and integrating both products. As for the next 2-5 years, we will adapt with what customers and businesses want in a signing platform.

How many employees do you currently have working with you and/or freelance contractors?

We have two founders, three employees and a contracted app development team. We are fortunate to have a great team and give so much credit to our amazing developers and engineers.

Are you looking to hire more people or contractors? If so, what positions and skills are you looking for?

We are always looking for talented individuals with entrepreneurial spirits to join our team. Currently, we are seeking a rock star developer with public API experience and a graphic design summer intern.

What other web based products would you recommend to entrepreneurs, business owners, or freelancers?

We owe so much of our success to great web-based products. Our favorites include: – Free video conferencing
DropBox – File syncing across computers and mobile devices
crowdSPRING – Crowdsource design projects to contractors
Optimizely – Simple A/B landing page testing
ZenDesk – Turnkey help desk support
SEOmoz – SEO tool for businesses

Any Patents Pending?

Yes, for our web-based notarization technology.

  1. Jersey Notary says:

    Notarynow is using NJ Notaries.
This is in direct violation of NJ Notary Law

The Division of Revenue requested legal guidance concerning the practice of online notarization services utilizing a webcam or other video in lieu of a personal appearance in front of a valid New Jersey Notary. It has been determined that New Jersey’s statutes do not allow for this type of notarization.
