Fiverr.com and Lives daily tasks

Micha Kaufman

Why did you start this company?

The inspiration for Fiverr.com came from our basic need to perform life’s daily tasks. We wanted the ability to easily handle simple tasks that take an unreasonable amount of time to complete simply because we don’t know how to perform them as well as an expert.. For example, setting up a simple blog. It may take hours or days for an inexperienced person to find the perfect blogging system, choose a hosting company, set up the blog and tweak it. Why not hire someone for an affordable fee who can get it done in three minutes? Today almost anyone can become a micro-entrepreneur. Most people know how to do something that can be of value to someone else. While there are quite a few websites that focus on the professional freelancer, there wasn’t a site that was accessible to the non-professional. Fiverr makes those “micro services” accessible to anyone in the world. It takes about a minute to post a service (we call them “gigs”) on Fiverr.com, and if someone is interested, they pay only $5 and get the service in return. Fiverr.com is a good fit to the current economy. People are unemployed, underpaid, and need additional income. Why not make money doing something you’re good at?

Who is your competition, and what do you do better?

Fiverr.com created a new market, and we are in the position to lead that market. Eventually competition will arise, but we’re working hard to stay ahead of the curve and establish a strong brand, large customer base, and real value for our users.

Why would a small business, entrepreneur, freelancer, etc use your product?

A small business would use Fiverr.com for one of the thousands of professional services posted on our site. Small businesses and entrepreneurs can choose from users offering to write a press release, launch a blog, or perform legal advice, all for only $5.There are people who can help a small business find a great domain name, set up a website, Facebook/Twitter account, or even design a logo. Fiverr.com is a great first-stop-solution for small businesses because our diverse users offer a complete package of the tools needed to get going.

Entrepreneurs or freelancers can make great money on Fiverr.com just by doing something they’re good at. Maybe it’s someone who is a pro at Photoshop or is able to transcribe audio recordings or proofread a thesis paper. One of our most successful entrepreneurs has made a lot of money with a simple idea. She lives on the beach, so for $5 she will write a name in the sand and make the photo into a postcard. Her service was so popular that she was able to make enough to take two vacations this year.

A short bio of your company.

Fiverr.com was launched in February 2010, and has since added more than 150,000 services in a variety of categories all for the affordable rate of $5. The idea behind Fiverr.com is to provide gigs that require special knowledge that are fast and easy for the person offering the service to perform, and also useful for the person buying the service.

Are there different pricing levels?

The standard price for a service is currently $5.

How long have you been in business?

Number of current users?

We’re not disclosing user or traffic numbers at this point, but we already have more than 150,000 services offered on the site and Fiverr is ranked as one of the 300 most popular websites in the U.S. by Alexa.com.

How do you see your company in the next 2-5 years (more products or services?)

Our focus is to continue building a strong brand and a strong community of sellers and buyers who can build and grow their business around the solutions Fiverr offers. We have a very well defined roadmap that supports the continued growth of both demand for and offering of services, and focused on product development and site features in a way that will enable us to continue as the market leader.

How many employees do you currently have working with you and/or freelance contractors?

Eight employees on board currently and we also work with various outside contractors.

Are you looking to hire more people or contractors? If so, what positions and skills are you looking for?

Our team constantly grows in response to the growth of the site’s popularity. We are continuing to add development power, customer support, content and editorial to maintain the great user experience.

What other web based products would you recommend to entrepreneurs, business owners, or freelancers?

We are obsessive about web analytics. Google Analytics is an industry standard and a must-have, but it lacks real-time features. For real-time analytics, I recommend checking out Clicky (www.getclicky.com). It’s a great tool for a very affordable price. I also recommend checking out 37signals (37signals.com). They make outstanding SAAS products for product management, contact management and team collaboration tools for entrepreneurs, freelancers, small and big organizations.

Your site is extremely useful and an amazing tool for shoestring entrepreneurs with a bit of creativity both as sellers and buyers. I am totally blown away of what people will do for 5 bucks!
