BOOST – Powerful Tools to Re-Energize and Re-Engage You and Your Team in Crazy Times

Linda Edgecome - BookBOOST: A book synopsis:

In her easy-to-follow, fun, seven-step plan, Edgecombe shows managers and entrepreneurs how to do more and do it better while having fun, and how to give themselves and their teams the “boost” they need to accomplish the goals they’ve set for themselves.

Why did you write this book?

My first book “Shift or Get Off the Pot! Simple truths about getting a Life” was about getting a kick in the butt personally and BOOST is more about giving our work teams a kick. I wanted to shake things up a bit when it comes to work teams. I really think we have become very disconnected to not only the work we do, but also the people we work with everyday. So I hope by following these steps, teams will re-discover the passion they have for their work and their life outside of work.

Do you have a blog, what is the link, what do you talk about in your blog?

My blog is www.lindaedgecombe.com/wordpress I write articles every week to give my readers tips on how to re-set their lives so they can live the best life that is out there for them.

Do you do speaking events? What are some common ones that you do on a regular basis? What do you talk about?

I am a Professional Speaker and speak often on the areas included in Boost. I also have a couple of keynote presentations that have been very successful with including Batteries Included Lessons to Energize and Balance Your Life and Shift or Get Off the Pot.

Do you do your own marketing or PR? What is a good marketing / PR strategy for a budding author?

The best way I have found to sell books is to speak. I sell books every time I present. I have sent out fun and sassy press releases to various media and have had a great response to those as well.

Do you tweet, facebook fan page, myspace friend or use any other social media to get the word out?

Yes, I use facebook, twitter and LinkedIn. I also post a ton of video on YouTube.

What free online or offline tools do you use?
I read most news papers online.

How many people are currently working, including employees (freelancers or independent contractors for specific projects)?

I have someone who does work in my office as well I have contracted out a PR company for my new book Boost. I often access eLance for virtual services needed from time to time.

What is the best advice you never got?

Well I have had a lot of advice, but when it comes to books, I got the message loud and clear that the only person who will sell my book is me.

What is the one thing that you did right?

In regards to my family, because I travel for my business, when I am home…. I am at home. Simple as that! I drive my girls to school so I can have time to chat with them. These drives are no cell/text or ipod zones. It works great. When it comes to business and my books: regardless if I have self published or used an established publishing house….how the book looks and title has been very important to me. I get lots of bookings off of the titles of my books. Also, all my marketing materials follow a similar look and brand. I look like I am really in the speaking and writing business

What was the biggest transition you had to make (i.e. new skill set, habits, abilities, focus)?

After 20 years of being in business, I went back to some basics in how I market my business, how I create new material and work with my clients. I make sure all my incoming inquiries are dealt with on the phone with an actual conversation. I follow up with a written proposal. I create programs that are designed for the client and do everything I can to over deliver when I speak and write.

2nd most important thing I have done, is I have blended my philanthropic efforts into my business. I rescue young girls in Nepal out of Child Slavery and I get them into school. So that project has become part of the work I do every time I am on stage. I sell scarves to fund these efforts every time I speak. And most importantly I love it.

What book(s) have you read that you would recommend to others?

I usually only read non-fiction. Just read Women, Food and God. I loved it. It really gives women permission to let themselves off the hook. For a mix of Fiction and non fiction I recommend Three Cups of Tea. It keeps me inspired to keep doing my project in Nepal to rescue girls out of bonded labor and get them into school.

In 50 words or less, write a paragraph stating why readers should buy your book and what they will get out of it after reading it.

I have been speaking and writing for the past 20 years and the conversations I listen to in the hallways of all the meetings and conferences I attend re-enforced to me that our workforce needs an “Energy and Engagement BOOST” Initially I was inspired to re-engage my family and that got me thinking, most corporate teams need this too.
