Did Facebook disappear you?

Facebook logo
The “f” stands for “F*&@book.”

Starting October 3, database maintenance problems at Facebook ended up disappearing over 150,000 users for over a week. Most of those affected have had their accounts restored in the last couple days, but with friends, messages, photos, and other information went missing.

Facebook has had its servers shut down, as has Twitter. Paypal lost its servers for over four hours about five weeks ago and Authorize.net had its server farm completely shut down on account of a fire about three months ago — costing netpreneurs and large businesses tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue. For small businesses and entrepreneurs who depend on Web services such as social networking and online payment gateways, it helps to remember that they’re no more dependable than that hard drive you lost three months ago or that laptop battery that just won’t recharge anymore.
